I’m doing a picture dump so here are a couple from the past week! Tomorrow when I have more time I’ll write a new post. Hasta luego!
Happyness #5: Gummy vitamins!
I take two of these suckers every morning and while I’m not convinced that they actually keep me healthy (I mean, I’m 19 and I take gummy vitamins while others swallow down horse pills, so who knows), it’s a treat to eat them every morning. I feel like I’m a kid! Unfortunately, the ones I have now aren’t actually bear-shaped but they’re delicious anyways. :)
Happyness #4: Group fitness classes
I LOVE group fitness classes at my university. Most of them (minus some of the adventure programs, like kayaking— WHICH I’M TAKING TOMORROW. SO SO EXCITED!!) are free and there is everything under the sun to choose from. The best thing is that you only sign up for 1 class session at a time, so if you don’t enjoy it, you’re not obligated to it for the remainder of the semester. I’m a fan of kickboxing, Yogalates, Power Yoga, hip-hop, and Kukuwa, which is this strange fusion of African tribal dancing and modern dancing. These classes are taught by great instructors (all students!) and make it so I never get the opportunity to be bored with working out.
Happyness #3: “Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga
If you haven’t heard this song by now, I really hope it’s because you’re living under a rock. Otherwise, you have NO excuse! Gaga is to our generation what Madonna was to the ’80s. (I refuse to compare her to the Beatles until she has hits popping up on the Top 40 ten and twenty years from now.) While I think her music is pretty average (catchy pop, not such a new genre or anything), her style and her personality are what makes her an icon.
That said, I LOVE Bad Romance. How can you not relate to lyrics like this?:
“I want your love and I want your revenge
You and me could write a bad romance
I want your love and all your lovers’ revenge
You and me could write a bad romance.”
This song has quickly become the college anthem of 2010. Everyone’s been in that stage of wanting somebody and all the drama they come with, just because being with them would make everything “perfect.” Desperation, hope, the all-or-nothing plea. It’s a vulnerable song but Gaga sings it with such an attitude that how could you not give in? I like her version and I like the acoustic spin-offs even more.
Happyness #2: Yellow rain jackets
I’d say on any given fall or winter day, 90% of the girls on campus are wearing a black or brown North Face fleece jacket. I really abhor those jackets, mostly because the girls who wear them only wear them because every other girl has one. However, as I’m trying to get involved in more outdoor sports, I decided it was time to try out the dreaded North Face. I’m starting with a rain jacket. It rains all winter and spring here and for my birthday this year my aunt bought me the North Face Venture Jacket in Snapdragon Yellow. What really drew me to this jacket is the color. I LOVE yellow. It always perks me up and while the main colors of winter tend to be blah-y muted earth tones, I love my bright yellow jacket, the smiles it puts on others faces and the confidence it gives me. Plus, I think it looks great with my brown hair. :)
ps. I have a fantasy of getting engaged while wearing this jacket. I’m not exactly sure why! Maybe ‘cause I know the pictures would be cute?
Happyness #1: The Shenandoah Mountains. On the drive to college, I sat in the passenger’s seat sobbing, not only because I was leaving my parents for good (okay, for two weeks until they visited) but also because the mountains freaked me out because I was unfamiliar with them. Now, they’re one of my favorite things about JMU; I LOVE how you can be at Festival any time of day and see these gorgeous blue beauties in the distance. Even better is seeing them at sunset. My heart melts.
Not that this is a big revelation or anything, but I’ve come to the conclusion that I was a lot happier last year than I am this year. In my current lap on the track that is finding myself, I decided I’m going to start chronicling my blessings. There might be stories, there might be pictures. The rule is, I’m only going to post things that make me happy/that I’m thankful for. No more negativity!
I encourage you to do the same! :)
